Well here we are, ready for a new California governor to be elected to replace Arnold Schwarzenegger. This year’s race is just like any other governor race- one Republican candidate (Meg Whitman) and one Democratic candidate (Jerry Brown). Here’s a little background information to see where these candidates are coming from.
Meg Whitman- Earlier in Whitman’s life, she held executive positions at some well-known companies- Hasbro, Disney, and Stride Rite. Whitman than saw some opportunities at a then growing EBay Company, so she found a job there and started steering the company. While Whitman worked there, EBay’s revenue grew from $4.7 million to nearly $8 billion. Whitman was the CEO, and retired in 2008.
Jerry Brown- Brown was an Attorney General earlier in his career; meaning he was the main legal advisor to the government, in this case the advisor to the governor of California. According to his website, jerrybrown.org, Brown has rightfully arrested 6,000 criminals, recovered 5,800 guns, closed 400 amphetamine labs, and cut the Attorney General’s operating budget by nearly 10%. Brown served as California’s governor in the 1970’s.
These are just some of the basic facts about the two candidates. I am still in the process of getting an interview with Mr. Brown and Mrs. Whitman, so stay tuned for interviews in the next edition!
