Piñatas

By Savannah McKinnon

Piñatas are a traditional part of the Posadas. In México, the Posadas are a tradition that last from December 16 to December 24. There are huge parties around each neighborhood where the people sing the Posadas song and eat traditional learning about these Posadas by cooking food and making decorations for the party. Another important item is the Piñata, which both classes had foods. In 8th grade Spanish we are to make. It was so challenging trying to get the 7 picos (cones) to stay on the paper maché ball. I know my group had so much to do and our piñatas are incredibly interesting. Nicole's group made an amazing piñata. The piñatas came out pretty cool, and it was an awesome experience to attempt to make them. I understand now that it is a huge tradition and Ms. Paniagua respects it completely. Singing the Posadas song to the High School Spanish class was fun too...
